Percussionist John Hadfield enjoys a widely ranging career in the fields of jazz, world and classical music. On the faculty of New York University, he has performed throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. Notable collaborations include Kenny Werner, Jon Faddis, Bobby Watson, Mike Richmond, Brad Shepik, Gil Goldstein, and Lenny Pickett. In addition, Mr. Hadfield's diversity as a percussionist has led him to perform with a broad variety of ensembles including Music from China, Perspectives Ensemble, the Ethos Percussion Group (as an Associate Member), Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Quintet of the Americas, BMI Jazz Orchestra, Pulse, Combo Nuvo, the New York gamelan group Dharma Swara, Las Vegas Symphony, the Israeli folk group Anistar, the Finnish group Kaiku, and the Marimba Yajalon, a marimba group led by Larry Kaptain performing works from the southernmost state of Mexico, Chiapas.
He has also premiered works by Chen Yi, James Mobberly, Trey Files, Paul Hogan, Hu Xiao-ou, Xie Peng, Jeffery Jacobs, Michael Schelle and Seongah Shin. Following his studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and the University of Missouri, Kansas City Conservatory, where he received his M.M., he spent several months studying gamelan in Indonesia. Currently, John Hadfield lives in NYC and plays on Broadway with the show Spamalot. This summer Hadfield is performing with the Michael Gordon Band in Europe.
